Joan Akkerman's Biography

Joan first became interested in alternative healthcare after observing the benefits her dog, Audrey, received for pain relief for her inherent physical conditions. Several years later, after undergoing back surgery, she looked for alternative healthcare for relief from back pain and discovered Reiki.

As a result, Joan attended the wellness clinic and successfully completed the Reiki level I & II studies. Nancy Schoefl suggested she contact Deb Griseuk and the New England Reiki Center where she continues to enjoy learning and working with this group since 2002. She practiced Reiki as an Apprentice Intern at St. Joseph's Hospital and the Presentation of Mary Provincial House. With experience and further studies, she is now a Master Intern practicing Reiki around the region for patients and a variety of pets and animals.
